RETRACING THE MYSTERIES OF HAPPIVESCENCE

There was a reason why for so many many decades, what’s still known in Hong Kong as Happy Valley has stayed known as Happy Valley. But is there is something mysterious and mystical about this unique looking area of a city that looks something like an embryonic UFO with its own secrets and magical past?

Maybe, the answers to everything are not that complicated…

Once upon nine dragons ago, what’s known today as Happy Valley was a magical place full of Happivescence- Happivescence being an indescribable feeling only known when missed.

This happened when this feeling slowly disappeared and was replaced by a clutter of darkness. The importance of imagination and creativity, all forms of music and inspiration were replaced by the need to get richer and richer. But, more often than not, this leads nowhere.

Things that are magical are timeless and don’t need to be spelled out or explained. This usually takes the magic away and makes everything seem less than ordinary.

Children, especially, learn from taking the time to imagine.

No one really knew about the history and what took place at Happy Valley all those over the thousands of years ago, but they had heard of wizards, flying monks teaching children to fly, and play musical instruments, everyone working together to create a land of green fields, the constantly changing colours of the sky, the usual and unusual animals and manimals that came out to play…

Muzi knew about all this, because being a time traveller, he had somehow inherited Happy Valley when it was actually a kingdom-a happy and magical kingdom that breathed the fire of life and creativity and happiness and became known as Happy Valley.

This happier Valley that was Happy had so many travellers like Shaolin monks literally flying in and out carrying their dreams and nothing else.

There was no room for Ego to clutter heads and take away from the priorities of life. Life was for living and doing and making every moment count.

Those flying in to Happy Valley had no need to influence nor impress anyone with anything except to be themselves and interact with whoever they met.

There weren’t interested in unnecessary words given just to confuse everyone and that said nothing.

Having studied under the great magician named Merlin who was invited to join the court of King Arthur in Camelot, Muzi was told that he was a Dutch Burgher from the island of Ceylon who had studied with the Brahmins in India and taught him the worthlessness of money.

Maybe this is where I come in?

Being timeless and ageless and the inner me, it was Muzi who had opened the path for me to enter Happivesence

Some say that even today, after the lights go off at Happy Valley racecourse, thousands of beams appear at exactly 2am every morning turning to night and its magical past takes off from where everything left off.

Muzi took me there once during this magical time when everyone was was out there enjoying and even studying Happivescence.

The mentors told me to inhale, exhale and absorb. I did and smiled, something that I hadn’t done for decades. Nothing was making me happy.

That happy smile has stayed with me.

Muzi saw this and said, “Show them Happivescence and save them from the fog, Hans”.

It’s tough, but I’m doing my best.
