The Annual Margot Robbie Lookalike Award:

Nicole Hyland, the long suffering wife of now retired jockey Samuel Hyland and always known for those immortal words, “You can do it, big boy! Get your leg over!”

This was quite recently when her former jockey-husband had a rather hard time trying ever so hard to mount a somewhat bored looking horse standing in the pasture and waiting for Samuel to get on and just DO it, baby!

The “When You Don’t Have An Idea” Award:

The anti-drugs campaign starring the ubiquitous Canto Popster and horse owner Aaron Kwok, who, as the Honorary Anti Drugs Commissioner, has created- wait for it- a new anti drug dance.

The rather silly PSA that looks it’s been cobbled together by Mr Bean with a garbled message and a waste of taxpayer money has had a pitiful 760 views and SIX likes in two months.

The “Who Knew?” Award:

When Sri Lanka was still a British colony and known as Ceylon, the island’s champion jockey was Australian Ted Fordyce aka The Railway Man who married a very pretty Singhalese girl and made the island his home.

The “If It Matters Enough, Just DO It” Award: John and Yoko and “Hair Peace”. Trump and his flying hair piece will never understand.

Some serious talks taking place about Ibiza-like festivals being held on Taipa Island in Macau and in Kandy in Sri Lanka, below, very much the most talked about tourist destination in Asia and maybe even the world these days and needing a leg up to get the wheels in motion.

The GOAT Racing Award

The Flower Power Award

Mary Huen, CEO of Standard Chartered for Hong Kong, China and North Asia, for wearing this fabulously understated and highly attractive pale blue floral dress to the race day recently sponsored by the Bank.

The “Why We Love Jessie Buckley” Award

After a few years of stumbling around, the marketing kindergarten of the Hong Kong Jockey Club introduces the SelfieCam and where today’s self absorbed Selfie Generation can appear on the big screen at the races and wherever horse racing is shown or streamed with the press of a Benjamin Button.

Problems appear when thousands of selfies appear on screens at the same time and disrupt the actual showing of the racing.

Donald Trump threatens to take over Macau and name it Big Mac, because he thinks that the former Portuguese peninsula is spelt McCow.

Of course, as always, he keeps threatening to take over the Taj Mahal and rename it the Trump Mahal.

A certain well-heeled entrepreneur releases what’s labelled the Epstein Files and the world goes nuts thinking they’ve finally got all the poop that they have been waiting for- though why is still a little grey! Alas, these Epstein files turn out to be snippets of previously unreleased interviews with Brian Epstein, the first manager of the Beatles and so many other Merseyside bands talking about his boys.

Unlike Jeffrey Epstein, who is said to have committed suicide and which no one believes he did, Brian Epstein, apparently, accidentally took a lethal cocktail of barbiturates and alcohol in 1967 and never woke up.

Buoyed by the mega response to confusingly named initiatives like “Racing with Rugby”, “Racing with Football” and, of course, Racing with Simulcasts along with the rather obvious Racing with Jockeys and Racing with Horses, Winning Wini, the visionary and forward thinking leader of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, announces plans for “Racing with Snooker”, “Racing with Runners”, “Racing with Swimmers” and the baffling “Racing to Nowhere with AI” etc, but that “Racing with the UFC” is a “nien nien”.

In one of the Club’s regular corporate puff pieces, Wini is quoted as saying, “The HKJC prides itself as the kingdom of Sports in Hong Kong and, so, to give the city more hope and many positive things to cheer people on, we’ll be introducing initiatives like these which will be the greatest and most breathtaking and exciting showcase for all sports, especially when our horse racing starts to look maybe not nearly fine and our business KPIs become flaccid”.
