SERENITY NOW!!!

While watching the comedy of errors before the second race at Caulfield on Saturday when the gates didn’t open because the starter’s button wasn’t working, and then there was some other malfunction, this time when the manual start didn’t work and there was talk about all the horses being backed out before the G spot was finally found and the horses were off and kinda running.

Unfortunately, there was no Dr Doolittle around, so, gawd knows how all this much ado about nothing and with nothing happening for so long affected the equine athletes waiting in the barriers.

This is mentioned especially because, after leading, Swift Force, the $1.45 favourite, folded like a beginners origami class and didn’t even run a place.

Of course these things happen in horse racing, and one ponders things like perhaps what the real reason might be for Mr V’lundies taking a four month break from managing Racing New South Wales in order to oversee the AFL and if he will ever return. Perhaps, he’s been dipping his toe in the whirlpool of smoke and mirrors for too long and is bored shirtless with it all?

Meanwhile, trainers in nearly every state in Australia appear to be having one problem or another with Stewards and with veterinary departments constantly moving goalposts, rules appearing to be somewhat sketchy and often sounding as if Cheech and Chong are in charge of the meds: “Dave? Is that you, man?”

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, we slowly inhaled and exhaled the rampaging stupidity sweeping the city and calmed down by thinking about the Standard Chartered’s fabulous looking lady in that casually chic floral blue dress while asking Alfie, what it’s all about.

Unable to outrun the ongoing goon show and mental decline of Mr Tangerine Man, MAGA, America, and the entire world being in some kinda new world disorder, there is some fleeting interest by those who busy themselves with trivialities in who will eventually win the Hong Kong Trainer’s Championship even though there’s no ROI in this nor in how many races Ka Ying Rising will eventually win.

This thought bubble was burst when listening to a race caller somewhere in Australia say that “Poor Old Johnnie Ray” was leading.

Remembering my father mentioning the Cult of allegedly bisexual American singer Johnnie Ray, it was interesting to discover that his name has been mentioned in songs by everyone from Billy Joel and Portishead to Dexy’s Midnight Runners was a controversial celebrity whose life turns appear to have been mirrored by some of those that tripped up George Michael’s.

As for “Poor Old Johnnie Ray”, the racehorse, he finished down the track.

Bring on Sunday racing at Shatin and more weirdness from all sides of this birdie Dum Dum world.
