Hong Kong phooey

“No idea about them being Butch and Sundance, but I see this team being more like ‘Young Frankenstein” with weird love oozing out of every pore!”

It was another Wednesday night of rather drab low class racing at Happy Valley and our friend visiting from overseas insisted on taking in the Happy Valley horse races “for old times sake”. She had declared the night before that the Whyte-Purton combination would win the fourth and fifth races- and they did- and how there was something quite “mad cow”about the fortunes of the one-time duelling competitive banjos of the duo.

“What happened to the Wednesday is the new Friday promise of FUN?” she asked to no one in particular while looking around at those wandering about like zombies who looked like fish out of water and left out to dry for too long while insisting that The Young Frankenstein Horse Racing Awards will be more popular and outré than “Springtime For Hitler”.

Always respecting her acerbic style and wit and knowledge of international races and marketing, we bowed to her recommendations.

Yes, The Young Frankenstein Award goes to one-time former champion jockey Douglas Whyte and the “Ka King Ka-Ching” of Hong Kong racing who’s turned the game on its head and made it a one trick pony that no one can touch

WHEN YOU’RE…LOST AND GOOFBALL GOOFY.

Seriously now, what was the point? Despite all the talk of basketball betting taking place in China and Hong Kong and the NBA trotted out, everything was netted and nutted at the very last minute this year, so why have former NBA player and legend Allen Iversen make a nanu cameo appearance at the races on Wednesday night- and wearing shorts and looking like a towering inferno?

How many on course knew who he was? Did Britney? Did Allen Iversen?

If still around and not busy these days communicating with her unemployed peeps on LinkedIn, “Gangles” would have been all over whatever the hell it was like a Tatler rash.

Is the daft square peg in round hole still sinking and thinking strategy of bringing together Racing With Sports? What’s next? Racing with Marbles? Racing with Pickleball? Racing with Croquet?

Who comes up with these pretty much Trumpian like Golden Ballroom oddities instead of just letting horse racing run its own race???

Why not lump it under something called “RACESPO” and give it its own widdle little five minute league of its own?

Though odd, and par for the desperate looking course that the HKJC is taking these days, this is still not as odd as the extremely dark and spooky track and terrifyingly expensive accompanying music video by the HKJC’s favourite son Aaron Kwok- who was surprisingly not on course on Wednesday to watch his horse win.

Odder still is a supplier for the HKJC having an invoice that was issued in 2023 FINALLY and OFFICIALLY rejected only last week.

Why? How?

Though now settled and the chump change after a THREE YEAR approval process, we have it on good authority that this tinpot case just might lead to something bigger and more venomous than a black widow spider.

It’s time for a clean out, dear HKJC, and a bai sun ceremony.
