BE INSPIRING BY KEEPING IT REAL.

We can put on a happy face, maybe we can have an hour of happiness, but imagine- and imagine is such an important word- being able to constantly be inspired- and perhaps even more importantly, to be inspiring!

I don’t like using exclamation marks, but I’ve used it in the earlier sentence to emphasise urgency, excitement and a call to action! There! I’ve made another exclamation mark!
Here’s someone who started out in advertising and was so happily inspired watching “E.T”.

I loved the story and was inspired enough to find out as much as I could about (director) Steven Spielberg and which led me to how his film “Duel” developed. Never seen it? It’s inspiring.

I understood more about his friendship and creative partnership with George Lucas and here was the start of a creative thread that led me to Jim Henson and the Children’s Television Workshop’s Sesame Street- the songs, the different coloured characters, the relationship between Kermit the frog and Miss Piggy, the numbers driven Count and the beautiful song “The Rainbow Connection”.

I remember watching Sesame Street with my daughter when she was around four years old and found that what was wonderfully infectious was seeing her excited frustration that if we could see Big Bird’s imaginary friend Snuffleupagus, then why couldn’t everyone else on Sesame Street see him?

Imagination is so powerful. So is creativity, inspiration, always the need to BE inspiring, to BE positive- they’re all part of my family tree because these are all good links and connections and branches and gardens needed to create a better world.

There’s a Point to all this and I found it in an innocently simple and deep concept album by the brilliant Harry Nilsson.

We need more imagineers to give us different real imaginary worlds coming from our hearts and minds and not technology-real worlds and real life for all of us and the generations to come.
This is why I started my Garden of Hope and Peace and Positivity late last year and wanted to do it on my dime and on my time and see where it leads.
Let’s just say that right now, I am in pro production mode.
With me climbing through jungle gyms of life, juggling fatherhood, finishing an autobiography, working on a film script, writing poetry that’s looking like being a musical, discovering the best seeds for sowing in my garden, these are all intertwined with everything else I am doing- and I love the challenge!
Maybe it was meant to be this way?
All this gives me a dopamine rush. Sometimes, it just makes me a dope. But that’s okay. Whatever it takes to make things happen- like trying to make the Hong Kong I know so well be more than it is today and more than it could be tomorrow and be seen as almost a standard bearer for Inspiration, Happiness and Positivity.

That’s not asking much.
