ASIA IS HAPPY TO HAVE YOU HERE, STEPHEN COLBERT!

Though there are those in Hong Kong who have never heard of Stephen Colbert, there are enough to have followed his career, and enjoyed watching him host “The Late Show” for almost a decade before having what he enjoyed doing and which his audience found so refreshingly honest taken away from him. 

This happened because the person voted to be the president of America took umbrage to something said about him and made sure that parent company CBS cancel his show, or else.  

This dictatorial “Or ELSE” way of running what once was the greatest country in the world has made America look like an ongoing episode of the Keystone Cops and “Fawlty Towers”. 

 It could be reasonably entertaining, but in this mix is a megalomaniac and despicable human being bloated with evil and proudly showing off his “art of the steal”, and continues to steal while the sad sack grifters around him shamelessly do his bidding. 

 We in Hong Kong watched Donald Trump being played so brilliantly by China’s President Xi during his recent visit to Beijing. 

Xi did this with a wry smile that said nothing and giving Trump all the room in the world to “lose face”. 

The ability to have one’s enemy “lose face” is something inscrutably Chinese and has now been seen and understood by the world though there are segments of the American media who either cannot or refuse to understand this. They just sit there and accept being scolded and insulted by a convicted felon and an unhinged dirty old man with his finger on the button. 

While thanking Stephen Colbert for his years of hosting of “The Late Show”, and knowing that he will return on a different medium because free speech cannot be taken away, my offer for him to think about hosting even a special or a series in Singapore or Hong Kong stands, because it’s so needed.

Here’s also hoping that if he takes up this offer, he brings his friends whose words matter and have them interact with some of the game changers in this part of the world. 

If there are other ways to make Trump “lose face” in the process, even better.
